Panels, Awards, Pirate Cruise (?!) and more

It’s been a busy few months at Kira Systems and what better way to keep the momentum going than the 2016 International Legal Technology Association Conference? We were excited to be first-time exhibitors (albeit not first-time participants).

The grand opening of the exhibit hall on the first day kicked off with the “Around the World with ILTA Vendors” themed party and you could say we thought out of the box with our space theme - literally, “around the world.” You can just make out a space-suit-wearing Robbie the Robot behind Kennan’s head!

The second day of the conference kicked off with “Bigger and Shinier: Legal Technology Innovation and Its Effect on the Profession.” Noah Waisberg, Kira Systems Co-founder and CEO was joined by:

In this panel, Noah spoke on the topic of separating hype from reality in artificial intelligence.

Later in the afternoon, Noah also participated in the ILTACON TV interview, where he talked about his journey with Kira Systems, as well as about what Kira is and how it provides value for professional services firms and corporations.

After a busy day filled with bustling activity in and out of the booth, the day capped off with the ILTA Awards Dinner and After-Glow Party, where Noah was awarded the 2016 ILTA Vendor Innovative Thought Leader of the Year Award. Kira Systems was also shortlisted for 2016 ILTA Innovative Solution Provider of the Year Award for Kira Quick Study. ILTA awards are serious (like the organization itself), so it was a great moment for Noah, as well as the entire Kira Systems team and our clients.

We kept the momentum going with our Solutions Spotlight session, which featured:

  • Steve Obenski, Chief Marketing Officer at Kira Systems
  • Michael Tominna, Director, Technology in Practice at DLA Piper
  • Paul Greenwood, Chief Information Officer at Clifford Chance

The session showcased a demo of Kira, as well as discussions about how DLA Piper and Clifford Chance are using Kira to innovate in client service delivery. The audience was engaged: one client noted the session featured the most questions he had seen at any ILTACON session [this year].

In the evening, we treated a small group of ILTACON participants to a night on the Potomac River on a “pirate” cruise! Participants onboard were treated to food, drinks, a lovely night out on the water, and the opportunity to shoot water cannons at a rogue pirate in a circling dingy.

The last day of the conference started with Noah’s presentation and dynamic reading of Robbie the Robot Learns to Read, the world’s first children’s book on machine learning, in the ILTA Showcase: Fast and Furious.

Noah then spoke on the “Choosing the Right Artificial Intelligence for the Job” panel with:

Noah talked about his experience working with and implementing machine learning technology at large professional services firms and corporations, and discussed how to navigate through the hype-filled artificial intelligence marketplace.

All in all, we had a fantastic time at ILTACON 2016 and would like to thank ILTA for hosting a fabulous event. It was great meeting everyone at the conference and we look forward to ILTACON 2017 in Las Vegas.
